Washington, Sept 27 (ANI): A new study has shown that journalists count on Twitter the most when it comes to disseminating information.
The research, titled 'Join the Conversation: how Spanish journalists are using Twitter', was carried out by professors of LABaPART group at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M - Carlos III University of Madrid).
The research aimed at observing what kind of professional use Spanish journalists make of the different social networks, such as Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter, YouTube etc.
"The first step was to analyze the participative scene, relating it to journalism. We were particularly interested in analyzing the perception journalists have of Twitter with respect to other social networks or other platforms, such as blogs," said the director of LAB?PART, Pilar Carrera, of the Department of Journalism and Audiovisual Communication at the UC3M.
The research was carried out on fifty Spanish journalists with active Twitter profiles with the median age of 38, who have been working in the profession for 15 years on average.
The results showed that while 95 percent of them use this tool to publish and distribute information, 86 percent identify tendencies and 82 percent of the journalists look for information via their twitter accounts.
The findings also showed that whereas 82 percent of the professionals use twitter to 'viralize' information about their particular media, 78 percent build audience loyalty with its use.
The project was presented at the conference of the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR). (ANI)
