New Delhi, Sep 24 (ANI): German Ambassador to India Thomas Matussek has informed that the travel advisory to Jammu and Kashmir has been revised to promote tourism in that state and the country.
Speaking at the outset of the inauguration of the "Germany and India 2011-2012: Infinite Opportunities" series by Junior German Foreign Minister Cornelia Pieper here, Ambassador Matussek said that after spending some days in Kashmir in July, he had revised the travel advisory to encourage tourism in India.
"Tourism from Germans going to France is about 50 times higher than going to the wonderful country of India. And in order to give a practical example, is spent some days in July in Kashmir in order to find out of we could modify our travel advisory in order to encourage the tourism in Kashmir and I am quite sure, now that we have modified it, the big tour operators will put this wonderful valley on their map and I think there is a huge, unexplored potential, whichever German tourist ever been to India would certainly come back," said Matussek.
Meanwhile, Pieper said this was a celebration of the 60 year diplomatic relation between India and Germany and that India was a strong strategic partner.
"In autumn 2012, it will be 60 years since Germany and India took-up their diplomatic relations, which is why the 'year of Germany' was organised. India is a strategically important partner of Germany and the potential of our collaboration in far from exhausted," said Pieper.
She also informed that as part of this series, during the next 15 months Germany would be providing tips to develop urban space in Indian cities and optimum use of natural resources.
"This year we'll be focused on the subject of city spaces. Over a period of 15 months various facets or urban development will be presented in a series of different events. Special emphasis will be placed on the question of how best to use urban public space. This increasing urbanising country such as India facing ever-greater challenges. Climate change and environmental protection, the responsible use of natural resources, energy issues and urban architecture are only some of the topics, which need to be addressed," she added.
The 'Year of Germany in India' was inaugurated simultaneously in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad and Kolkata. (ANI)
