Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 22 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that the vault B of Kerala's famous Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple should not to be opened until "substantial progress" was made in cataloguing and accounting of artefacts.
The court also reviewed the security provided at the temple by the Kerala government. It asked for shops and the offices of political parties to be moved from the temple's larger complex.
It also said that the state government was capable of implementing and handling it so there was no need to take assistance of paramilitary force, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
The court also asked for the inventory of the assets found so far to be completed at the earliest. A committee of experts has been appointed by the court to supervise the process.
The overseeing committee consists of retired judge of Kerala High Court, Justice M N Krishnan, the erstwhile Prince of Travancore Marthanda Varma and a government representative of the rank of secretary.
The Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple shot into fame as the richest in the country after wealth, including jewels and gold, were found there in vaults sealed for over 150 years.
A total of six vaults were found, with two more vaults of wealth discovered later.
The four vaults that were opened in the temple first revealed wealth valued around Rs. 90,000 crore. (ANI)
