Islamabad, Sep 19(ANI): Former Pakistan off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq has said that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should arrange a bilateral series on the lines of the Ashes.
The two cricket-crazy nations have clashed with each other in various tournaments, but fans have been deprived of a bilateral series due to strained relations after the 26/11 Mumbai attacks in 2008, in which over 160 people were killed.
"I personally feel that India and Pakistan should start a series on the lines of Ashes. But lets wait for the ties to resume first," the News quoted Mushtaq, as saying.
Further talking about India's disastrous tour of England, Saqlain denied suggestions that spinners' failure was to blame for the complete whitewash.
"It was the failure of the team and you cannot just blame the spinners. You didn't have runs on the board and, in such scenario, the spinners can't gamble," he said.
"The conditions were pacer-friendly and, as one saw, it was the pacers who did the trick for the hosts. So, I don't think it would be right to blame the spinners alone," he added.
The M.S. Dhoni-led team had lost the four-match Test series 4-0 and the five-match ODI series 3-0.
They have also lost the Test top spot and dropped to fifth position in the International Cricket Council (ICC)'s ODI ranking, a lowest position in the last three years. (ANI)
