London, Sept 18 (ANI): A localized version of Abba's hit song 'Mamma Mia' has proved to be a big hit in China, and the songs - all meticulously translated into Mandarin - seem to have a universal appeal.
The first ever blockbuster musical to be translated into Chinese has opened to a sell-out audience in Beijing, with the performances ending with the crowd on its feet - dancing to the Swedish pop group's songs featured in the musical.
"It's the first time I've seen anything like this in China," Sky News quoted actress Shen Xiaocen, who plays one of the three female leads in the show as saying.
The show has proved to be a hit with audiences of all ages, ranging from Chinese teenagers to retired Communist officials and it is the first time many audiences have heard the song.
"It was so great. Everyone should come and see it," Lily Ren, who attended the show, said.
An elderly lady who confessed she had never heard of Abba said: "I loved the music, it made me want to dance". (ANI)
