New Delhi, Sep 17: A festival of contemporary Canadian cinema began here at the India International Centre on Friday with the screening of the movie "Away From Her".
Nearly a hundred people thronged the India International Centre's auditorium to see the film that showcased how the relationship of a couple married for over 40 years goes through testing times after the woman begins to suffer from Alzheimers.
The audience appreciated the movie.
Subodhna, who watched the movie, said: "The movie was really good and it was very well done. Also the subject of the film was very strong."
She also added that Bollywood has also started making such movies. The recent Kajol and Ajay Devgan starrer You Me and Hum was on such lines and it is a bliss to see such movies in the Indian genre, she added.
Madhavi, another film buff, said: "Such initiatives will help us know more about the Canadian style of movie making and will spread more awareness about the culture and methods of Canada, not just in filmmaking, but also on other aspects of Canadian life."
A total of eight films on different subjects will be shown during the festival that includes one on animation.
"Away From Her" is an award-winning movie that is an adaptation of Bear Came Over the Mountain," a short story by Man Booker-prize winning author Alice Munro.
It was the directorial debut of the actress Sarah Polley and got two academy award nominations. By Devesh Gupta (ANI)
