Cardiff (Wales), Sep.17 (ANI): Injuries to players and the dice not rolling India's way cost the team the Test and one-day series in England, felt skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Speaking to media persons after losing the last one-day match against England by six wickets on the basis of the Duckworth-Lewis scoring system, Dhoni admitted that the tour has not been a good one for the national side.
After Friday's loss, India has dropped to the fifth position in the ICC one-day rankings, the lowest in the last three years.
"Well there was not so much problem in the bowling, if you see our bowlers, Munaf Patel bowled four overs after that he got injured, and then, others had to bowl those four overs due to which the rhythm was not maintained," said Dhoni.
"I think, keeping in mind the overall conditions, the ball was getting wet during evening and not to forget that we had lost all the five tosses consecutively we have played under same conditions so it got difficult to bowl. So, overall we were unable to build enough pressure on them," added Dhoni.
In this tour several senior players in the Indian squad were rested due to injuries and young and new players were given an opportunity to play in the series.
"Well there were so many injuries that I have never witnessed so many injuries in the past 5 years, especially in one series. We do expect that someone or the other will miss or will have an injury but if in one series 9 to 11 players get missed, then it is an unforgettable part of the series and it will be big part of this series," said Dhoni.
England ended the tour against India unbeaten with 3-0 victory in ODI series and 4-0 victory in test series. Moreover, they also won the solitary Twenty20 game between the two sides. By Praful Kumar Singh(ANI)
