Tangdhar (Jammu and Kashmir), Sep.14 (ANI): The Jammu and Kashmir Government organised a 'Kisan Mela' (Farmer Fair) in the border area of Tangdhar for the first time on Tuesday.

The two-day fair was organised with an aim to provide impetus to agriculture in the remote and border areas. A large number of the farmers thronged the fair so that they were able to reap the benefits of the new technology that was showcased at the fair.

"My objective is to reach out to the people through this fair. All the departments exhibit their technology and programmes at the fair. The common complaint is that the technology does not reach the ground level. These fairs ensure that the newly developed technology reaches the farmers at the ground level," said Gulam Hassan Mir, Agriculture Minister of the state.

Tanghdar is one the famous area near the line of control (LOC) and it falls in Karnah constituency of district Kupwara and is approximately 180 kilometres from the summer capital of Srinagar city.

The farmers often complained that the technology that was developed in the laboratories failed to reach them and the people residing in the border areas were not aware of the latest methods and technology that was employed in the field of agriculture.

"It is for the first time such a fair is happening. We have gained a lot of knowledge. We have got the information of how best we can grow the vegetables," said Rafiq Ahmad, a farmer.

The stalls of various departments like sericulture, horticulture, floriculture, and animal husbandry were seen at the fair.

The agriculture department had taken the initiative to organise such fairs in various districts of the valley as the people had show keen interest to learn about the new techniques that have been developed in the field of agriculture. (ANI)
