Surat, Sep. 14 (ANI): Police in Surat, Gujarat, have taken steps to tighten security in the wake of the recent bomb explosion outside the Delhi High Court.
They have put up posters of the five suspects who were involved in the 2008 serial blasts.
The city police officers were assigned with the task to put up posters and pictures of the suspects who carried out the serial blasts in Ahmedabad three years ago.
"For a very long time these culprits are wanted and to refresh the memories of the citizens about the perpetrators. The other reason is also that people should be aware and be alert of any terror attack," said Rakesh Asthana, Police Commissioner of Surat.
The state has been one of the major targets for militant attacks along with other cities like New Delhi, India's commercial capital Mumbai and Bangalore.
High alert was sounded in Ahmedabad, including Surat, after the blast in New Delhi.
Police authorities have asked the people to remain alert especially in crowded areas such as markets, railway stations and cinema halls.
Locals have hailed the efforts of the police department to ensure the safety and well being of the citizens.
"I appreciate the move made by the police that they have put up posters. With such an initiative bomb blasts can be averted. It is good for the public and they should support and help the police by cooperating with them. Together we can live peacefully and the scourge of militancy can be ended," said Alpana Jain, a resident of Surat.
Two major blasts this year in New Delhi and Mumbai have caused fear and panic among the people across the country.
Police across India have been asked to remain vigilant day in and day out.
A high intensity blast had rocked the national capital on September 07 killing 13 people and injuring around 88. (ANI)
