Srinagar, Sep.9 (ANI): The sixth National Deaf Basketball Championship kicked off in Srinagar on Thursday.
It is for the first time that such a championship is taking place in Jammu and Kashmir.
Deaf players from 14 states cross the country participated enthusiastically in the tournament.
"We have teams representing 14 states across India that have come here to participate in this tournament. And we should acknowledge the passion and dedication of these players who have come here, so far, when any common man would think twice before coming to Srinagar and play. But they have come here and showed it the whole world that there is peace in Srinagar," said Kiran Watal, Secretary Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council.
The players got an opportunity to test their sporting skills and showcase their talent at a national level. Players were thrilled by the opportunity to share the court with other deaf players.
"I feel truly happy to come here. This is an opportunity for us to meet and learn from all the players that have come from the various states. All the deaf people that are gathered here are brothers and we would feel very relaxed playing with them," said Dinesh, a player from Karnataka, India's southern state.
The Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council (JKSC) and the deaf association of Kashmir had organised the tournament. The final match would be played on September 10. (ANI)
