Kolkata, Sep 4(ANI): Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee reckons that women empowerment at the grass root level would bring the desired social economic change in the country.
Mukherjee was addressing a gathering while launching the 'Sukanya' project in Kolkata on Saturday.
"The project contributes to women empowerment, I strongly believe that women empowerment at the grass root level will bring the desired social economic change in our country," the Finance Minister said.
"No civilized city can ignore the well-being of the women folk. People participation in the developmental process is indispensable," he further.
He further reiterated that the Central government has initiated several schemes and adopted new initiatives for the development, welfare and empowerment of women.
"Our goal is to make development more inclusive and ensure growth that is specially enriching the weaker sections of the society," Mukherjee said.
