Cook refuses to guarantee Pietersen's comeback to England ODI squad

London , Sat, 03 Sep 2011 ANI

London, Sep 3(ANI): England ODI skipper Alastair Cook has declined to confirm if Kevin Pietersen will be selected in the squad when they visit India next autumn.

Pietersen, who was part of England's Test and Twenty20 squads, will sit out the five-match ODI series, which begins at Durham today.

The 31-year-old has hit just one hundred and two fifties in his last 30 ODI innings since November 2008.

"KP is a world-class player and we have said that as part of the management of players' workloads, he is being rested for this series," the Sun quoted Cook, as saying.

"It's all part of the programme to look after people who play all three forms of the game, but there is no guarantee for anyone," he added.

The official line is that Pietersen is not playing the ODI series as part of England's policy of resting stars.

"If we feel it is necessary for Kevin, or any other player, to miss part of the international schedule, we will leave him out if it is in his and the team's best interests in the long term," national selector Geoff Miller had said. (ANI)
