Guwahati, Sep 3 (ANI): Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has said that India should improve relations with Bangladesh.
Speaking on the sidelines of an event here on Friday, Gogoi said both countries would benefit immensely if relations are further reinforced.
"We want to improve our relations with Bangladesh in the field of trade, commerce and culture. It was earlier our neighbour but today it is a separate country due to partition," said Gogoi.
He also highlighted the areas of disagreement between the two countries like cross border infiltration and border dispute. He said if these issues are resolved then relationship between the two countries can be further strengthened.
"Infiltration is also an issue for both countries other than border land dispute with states of Assam, Tripura, Mizoram and West Bengal. We want to develop a good relation and make settlements of these issues, this is our objective," added Gogoi.
He said this referring to the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh's upcoming visit to Bangladesh.
Dr. Singh would be undertaking a two day visit to Bangladesh from September 6. (ANI)
