Washington, Sept 3 (ANI): The first ever "lunar Bible", which was carried to the surface of the Moon on Apollo 14 in February 1971, along with Neil Armstrong's glove, and a typed letter are set to be auctioned off.
The Bible is a little square sheet of microfilm, just an inch and a half on a side, and it was carried by astronaut Edgar Mitchell during the historical journey to the moon.
The auction run by RR Auction of Amherst, N.H., is set to begin online on September 15 and will end on September 22, and the minimum bid is 5,000 dollars, with 831 other items being offered.
"Many of these men were very spiritual. Buzz Aldrin celebrated communion in the Lunar Module. Mitchell said he had an epiphany," ABC News quoted Bobby Livingston, who is running the auction, as saying.
It's all there, 1,245 pages of the King James Bible in microscopic type, and Livingston says it has been flown to the moon more often than any person.
The other items are a glove, tailored to fit Armstrong's left hand and used in training for moonwalks, a page from the Apollo 11 flight plan, signed by Aldrin, a computer display from an Apollo simulator, and a typed letter.
The letter, which was signed by Armstrong and Aldrin, was sent to Mrs. A. O. Teller of Honolulu in June 1969, thanking her for suggesting what to say when he stepped onto the lunar surface.
"We do not know at this time what our inclination will be should we be successful in our landing attempt. I certainly hope you will be pleased with whatever message we do have and the impressions that people on earth receive from our efforts," the letter read. (ANI)
