New Delhi, Sep 2 (ANI): Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Sitaram Yechury on Friday said the Central Government should make its stand clear on the appointment of Lokayukta in Gujarat.
"The government should make its stand clear on the appointment of Lokayukta in Gujarat. Both Congress Party and the Centre are quiet on this issue, they should come out in open and clear the issue," Yechury told mediapersons here.
Gujarat Governor Dr. Kamla Beniwal had last Friday appointed RA Mehta as the new Lokayukta of the state.
Yechury further said a strong and effective Lokpal Bill is necessary, but it alone would not be able to solve all necessary issues.
"First should be a Lokpal, second should be for judicial accountability there should be a national judiciary commission for the corruption in judiciary, third is electoral reforms to curb the power of money in elections, fourth is to bring back the black money back to India and lastly to create laws to prevent illegal land acquisition which is affecting our farmers," said Yechury.
"Until all these things are not combined we cannot have an effective bill, Lokpal is necessary but alone it will not be able to solve all the necessary issues," he added.
Meanwhile, another Communist Party of India-Marxist leader Prakash Karat also appeared to be on the same wavelength as Yechury and stressed on the need for several other reforms.
"Lokpal Bill should be an effective bill. But we also demand for other aspects like separate judiciary commission, electoral reforms and curb on black money," he said. By Devesh Gupta (ANI)
