Parsawa (Bihar), Aug 31 (ANI): The Communist Party of India (Maoist) recently organised a six-day long medical camp for the locals in Bihar's Parsawa village.
Around ten to twenty people die every year after the onset of the monsoons, as diseases like malaria and diarrhoea grips the village.
The village is located in a difficult terrain, which is surrounded by mountains on all sides. As a result, the locals are forced to stay in their houses due to the breakdown of the mode of communication with other cities and towns. The incessant rainfall forced the swelling of the local rivers and the streams.
Maoists prevent construction of roads in interior areas, which may result in lessening their hold. However to keep the goodwill of the villagers, they hold medical camps.
"Every year this programme is being organised by Communist Party of India (Maoist). As you know, every year people get affected with malaria and we are grateful to Communist Party of India (Maoist) for helping us," said Bhuinya, Village Head.
Considered as one of the backward regions of the state, villagers here complained of lack of proper medical facilities and doctors.
Sarju Prasad, a doctor here, said Bihar Government has made no specific arrangements for providing relief to the people despite the spread of diseases like malaria and diarrhoea in the area.
"This is a rural area and government doctors do not come here, so Communist Party of India (Maoist) has organised a medical camp and people are coming here for their treatment. Around 10-20 people have died because of diarrhoea," he said.
The six-day long camp, which began here on August 24, ended on August 29.
Meanwhile, the Maoists referred to the organisation of the medical camp as a noble gesture. They had earlier termed their revolt as the struggle for the poor people.
However, of late Maoists have been obstructing the development activities that are taking place in the region, resulting in the disruption of growth of the rural areas.
Despite stringent measures taken by the authorities to curb the violent insurgency, Maoists have stepped up their surgical attacks on democratic institutions of the nation on the pretext of 'fighting for the rights of the oppressed'. (ANI)
