Washington, Aug 31 (ANI): Daryl Hannah was arrested in front of the White House during a protest opposing the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline, which is to run from Canada to the Gulf Coast.
The 50-year-old actress sat down on the sidewalk near the White House and refused orders from the U.S Park police to move, saying the protestors wanted to be free from dependence on fossil fuels, hoping the president would not bow to oil lobbyists.
The rally involved dozens of protestors urging President Obama to reject the pipeline that would go through Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas to refineries in Houston and Port Arthur, Texas.
According to ABC News, the protests were organised by a group dubbed 'Tar Sands Action', which claims that the pipeline will pump 900,000 barrels a day of "the world's dirtiest oil" from Alberta, Canada to refineries in Texas. (ANI)
