Telecom Ministry will soon be sending a note on VSNL issue to Cabinet: Sibal

New Delhi, Aug 29 (ANI): Union Communications and Information Technology (IT) inister Kapil Sibal today said the Department of Telecom (DoT) would soon be sending notice to the Cabinet for their approval to sell off surplus land, which was earlier with tate owned telecom services provider Videsh Sanchaar Nigam Limited (VSNL).

 

"Well, I think a cabinet notice is being prepared (over the VSNL landline issue)," Sibal old mediapersons on the sideline of a curtain raiser ceremony for International xhibition and Conference-'India Telecom 2011: M-Powering India' held here.

 

The proposed sale is expected to bring huge revenues to the Telecom Department.

 

Speaking on the 2G spectrum scam, Sibal revealed that they were still holding iscussions regarding the cancellation of any telecom licence with the Telecom egulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

 

He further said that the final decision will be based on the recommendations made by arious 'law officers', as it is a legal issue which requires further scrutiny and analysis.

 

"Those (cancellation of Telecom licences) issues are also being discussed and the matter s in fact going back to, we are having a discussion with TRAI (the Telecom Regulatory uthority of India)... all those issues because there are very complex, legal issues nvolved," said Sibal.

 

"As we look at the fine prints of the contracts and so we are now to take a call, we ertainly will take the advice of the law officers of the country before we take a ecision," he added.

 

Sibal has also assured that DoT would use the services of other agencies to conduct egular audits regarding the allocation of telecom spectrum. (ANI)
