Malkangiri, Aug 29 (ANI): Young tribals in a Maoist-infested area of Orissa are facing the brunt of unemployment as no government official has visited Malkangiri region since last year to recruit them, due to Maoist fear.
Tribals said that earlier government officials used to visit their area for providing employment, but due to adverse impact of Maoists menace, now they are not ready to come here.
"Earlier they used to come here for recruitment but due to Naxal (Maoist) fear no official or may be no one wants to come here. Earlier they also used to hold meetings with us and were giving enough work opportunities to us, but now everything is stopped," said Gobind Kirsani, a local.
Due to the constant Maoist threats, the development work in various districts of the state has also been adversely affected.
The tribal communities have repeatedly complained to the state government about their problems, but nothing much has been done in their favour.
They have also complained to the regional development officers about it but they are also not taking any initiative for their welfare.
"We have asked the Block Development Officer (BDO) for work but they are also not listening to us due to Maoist fear. No officer visits this place. Earlier they used to come to provide employment, but since last one year, the work this process is completely stopped due to Maoist fear. Neither any job opportunity is available here, nor does any contractor want to work in this area," said Basudev Mahato, another local.
However, denying the allegation, J Soren, Project Leader of Bonda Development Agency, a government firm said that enough job opportunities are being provided to the tribals in his area.
"In my project area, we are providing adequate jobs in number of days. So they (tribals) have not been involved in Naxalism (Maoism)," said Soren.
