Ahmedabad, Aug 29 (ANI): The Gujarat High Court on Monday acquitted all the 12 accused in the former Gujarat Home Minister Haren Pandya murder case
The High Court also pulled up the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for botching up the investigations, leading to an enormous waste of time.
A division bench of the high court comprising Justices D H Vaghela and J C Upadhyay said the CBI investigations in the case were "washed up, blinkered and had left lot to desire."
The court said the investigation agency could not prove murder charges, hence the conviction by the trial court, where the accused were convicted of murder with criminal conspiracy, would not survive.
The High Court had earlier reserved its verdict after completing a month-long hearing of arguments on August 12.
Pandya was shot dead in 2003 near Ahmedabad's Law Garden area while out on a morning walk. The case was probed by the CBI, which nabbed 15 people out of the 19 named as accused for the murder to avenge the 2002 Gujarat riots.
Earlier, a special POTA Court had convicted 12 people, including Asgar Ali and awarded life imprisonment to nine of them. Two others got seven-year jail and another person got a five-year jail sentence. (ANI)
