Khawaja's century likely to seal Oz Test spot in Sri Lanka

Colombo, Sat, 27 Aug 2011 ANI

Colombo, Aug 27(ANI): Australian batsman Usman Khawaja seems to have cemented his place in the national Test sqaud following his elegantly constructed century in the practice match against the Sri Lankan Board XI.

Khawaja scored an unbeaten 101 at the Saravanamuttu Stadium, and also shared an opening stand of 153 with Phillip Hughes.

The 24-year-old's rival for the one available place in the line-up, Shaun Marsh, was dismissed for 12.

He later said that he was ready to bat at any position if selected in the final XI for the first Test against Sri Lanka starting in Galle from August 31.

"It all depends on what's best for the team. I'm happy to bat anywhere from opener, to the middle order. Obviously the No.6 spot is the only one that is available," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Khawaja, as saying.

"I got my first 200 batting for NSW at six. I've just got to make sure that if I do get my chance I've got to put my hand up as much as I can," he added. (ANI)
