LeT claims killing Kashmiri leader

Srinagar, Sat, 27 Aug 2011 ANI

Srinagar, August 26(ANI): The Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), a Pakistan-based terrorist organisation, has admitted that a fellow anti-Indian rebel had killed a veteran cleric in Kashmir earlier this year.

Moulana Shoukat Ahmad Shah, a strong pro-independence supporter, was assassinated on April 8 in a bomb blast in Kashmir's summer capital Srinagar as he entered a mosque.

Kashmiri groups had earlier blamed the daylight killing on Indian security agencies, accusing them of seeking to "sabotage the freedom struggle of Kashmiris", The Nation reports.

But an investigation by the LeT said that a member of the rebel group Tehreek-ul-Mujahedin (TuM), Javed Munshi, was responsible for the killing of Moulana Shah.

"At first instance, we thought Indian agencies and troops had martyred him (Shah) to weaken the movement," said the LeT report. (ANI)
