International migration body arranging two ships to evacuate foreigners from Libya: MEA

New Delhi, Aug.26 (ANI): The Ministry of External Affairs on Friday said that efforts were underway to get the mortal remains of Indian national Imtiaz Alam back to India from war-ravaged Libya.

 

In a statement, the official spokesperson said: "It is understood that an Indian national, Shri Imtiaz Alam, who was working at the residence of a Libyan dignitary in Tripoli, succumbed to his injuries, consequent to a bombing attack last week. Efforts are underway to get his mortal remains back to India. His family in Lucknow has been intimated by his Indian colleague."

 

He also said that the International Organization of Migration (IOM) is making arrangements to evacuate stranded foreign nationals in Libya, by two ships leaving the country on Friday 26 and Saturday 27 August, 2011 respectively.

 

Indian nationals still in Libya have been informed about the initiative.

 

He also said that those Indian citizens who have expressed a desire to return are being assisted, to the extent possible, despite the very difficulty ground situation and extremely limited resources with our Mission at Tripoli. (ANI)
