London, Aug 24 (ANI): In the wake of a majority of Britons' online film viewing habit, the social networking giant Facebook has signed a new deal to rent out films and television shows.
In order to compete with other rental websites, Facebook will charge around 1.80 pounds a film after signing a deal with studio Miramax, the Daily Mail reports.
Movie giants Warner Bros, Paramount and Universal have deals with Facebook to promote their films, but this is the biggest one till date.
"We are big believers in Facebook and what it could mean for the future of the content business," Miramax said in a blog post.
"Our ultimate goal is to give consumers the opportunity to buy films and store them in their own cloud-based digital locker to then access the content anywhere they want, across all devices," it added.
As per the new deal, once a film or TV show is rented using the Facebook credit system, the person must view it within 30 days, but once they start to watch there is a 48-hour window to finish it.
At the same time they will be able to discuss them with friends and suggest to studios how they could improve their films, the report said.
The app, designed in eight weeks, is still a beta version, and includes a game that lets people cast their friends in the roles from Miramax films.
Meanwhile Facebook is looking forward to get similar deals with other movie companies. (ANI)
