Pune, Aug 22 (ANI): With Anna Hazare's crusade against corruption motivating numerous young men and women across the country, the sale of Gandhi caps has surged in Maharashtra's Pune city.
Girish Murudkar, a shopkeeper here said: "After the movement led by the social activist Anna Hazare, lots of young people have been inspired to wear it. Everyone is placing their orders here (in the shop) and it is for the first time in the history that thousands of caps are being sold everyday."
Following the immense support that Anna Hazare has received for his anti corruption crusade, the veteran social activist's signature Gandhi cap has gained immense popularity.
The Gandhi caps have witnessed a huge increase in its sales as people are sporting it across the country.
In Pune city, people were seen buying Gandhi caps from various shops. Some of them also complained about the shortage of caps in the market.
"I wanted around 150 caps but I got only 80 caps. I have come to the sixth shop. It is not available. There is shortage everywhere," said Santosh Chintal, a customer.
The Gandhi cap is a white coloured cap, pointed in front and back and having a wide band. It is made out of khadi. It takes its name after the Indian leader Mahatma Gandhi, who first popularised its use during the Indian independence movement.
Worn commonly by Indian independence activists, it became a symbolic tradition for politicians and political activists to wear it in independent India. (ANI)
