Colombo, Aug 22(ANI): Australian batsman Shaun Marsh is hoping that an emphasis on fitness will be the key to success during the second half of the tour of Sri Lanka.
Marsh, who has been a crucial part of the Australian ODI team, is trying to break into the Test team for the three-match series starting on August 31 in Galle.
The 28-year-old has recuperated from a series of back and hamstring injuries, which threatened to derail his international career in the past few years.
"My dad always told me a fit body means a fit mind and I guess that's a part of trying to bat for long periods of time as well. When I got back from India (following the Indian Premier League) and I knew I wasn't going away to Zimbabwe, I had a week off and then got stuck into some really good training back home," Stuff.co.nz quoted Marsh, as saying.
"(Just) tried to get myself as fit as I could. Coming over here in pretty hot conditions, your fitness has got to be at a pretty high level to really bat for long periods of time," he added.
Marsh further feels Australia will go into the Test series with the upper-hand after a dominant run over the hosts in the ODIs.
"Great for the group. Gives us a lot of confidence. We knew it was tough coming over here," Marsh said of the series win.
"We know it's going to be a really tough Test series and we're looking forward to that challenge," he added. (ANI)
