New Delhi, Aug 20(ANI): The Election Commission has directed Punjab Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Kusumjit Sidhu to submit a factual report with regard to certain allegations about Punjab DGP received by the Commission during the review meeting it held with political parties, district election officers and senior state government officials regarding preparation for state general elections.
"Some political parties had complained about certain state government officials and their biased behaviour, in particular about deployment of about 350 police security guards to certain individuals in Moga District with ulterior motive," the Election Commission said in a press release.
"It was also alleged that the DGP had made several visits in recent past to Moga District with a view to nurturing it politically," it added.
The Commission also directed that activities of D.S. Guru, Presently Principal Secretary to the Punjab Chief Minister, whose name was specifically mentioned in the complaint submitted by political party representatives, be kept under watch so that he is not able to influence any election related official or process.
Besides the above, the Punjab Chief Electoral Officer has also been communicated other decisions which were taken during the review meeting for compliance.
"These relate to electoral rolls, training of BLOs, house to house survey, enrolment of new voters, implementation of transfer policy, execution of non-bailable warrants and identification of vulnerable booths," the statement said.
Kusumjit Sidhu has been asked to ensure compliance and intimate action taken in these matters by August 25. (ANI)
