England have played well, says Sreesanth

London , Sat, 20 Aug 2011 ANI

London, Aug.20 (ANI): Indian fast bowler S.Sreesanth has candidly admitted that England has batted itself into a very solid and strong position in the fourth and final Test, and added that this has been a consistent feature of the home side during the series.

Interacting with media after the second day's play here, Sreesanth said: "Honestly, they (England batsmen) played well. You can't take anything out of them because they played really well. They attacked. They stayed there. They kept leaving the good balls and they didn't go fetching outside the off-stump. (Except) a couple of good shouts (nothing happened) but honestly it was also a pure batting track as well."

He was speaking after middle order batsmen Ian Bell and Kevin Pietersen shared a record partnership of 350 runs on Friday.

England ruthlessly dissected an inadequate Indian attack on the second day of the fourth and final Test match at the Oval Cricket ground in London. At the close of a prolonged day after two sessions were lost to rain on Thursday, England were 457 for three with a 4-0 series whitewash in their sights.

Bell (181 not out) and Pietersen (175) each completed their second centuries of the series on Friday and the third-wicket stand exceeded the previous England best for any wicket against India, 308 by current batting coach Graham Gooch and Allan Lamb at Lord's in 1990.

Commenting on the early dismissal of England openers Strauss and Cook, Sreesanth said: "That is how cricket goes. It was a great challenge bowling to them. I enjoyed it. I kept running-in hard and even Ishy (Ishant Sharma) and even RP (Rudra Pratap Singh), he is playing his first Test after a long time, the way he started the day was amazing."
