Jena to attend 58th World Statistics Congress in Dublin

New Delhi, Aug.20 (ANI): Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Statistics and Programme Implementation Srikant Kumar Jena will leave tonight for Dublin, Ireland, to attend the 58th World Statistics Congress of the International Statistical Institute from August 21 to 26.

 

Jena will be accompanied by a delegation.

 

He will confer the International Award in Statistics on Professor Victor Yohoi of Argentina, the founder of the 'Argentinean School' of 'Robust Statistics' on August 22.

 

The biennial award was instituted by the Indian government in association with the International Statistical Institute, Woorburg, The Netherlands in 2003, to recognize the statisticians from the developing countries for the life time contribution in statistical research and official statistics in their native country.

 

The award was instituted in the memory of Professor P. C. Mahalanobis, who was one of the members of the first five-year planning body in India and the founder of Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata.

 

In addition to the World Statistical Congress, Jena will meet Phil Hogan, Minister of Environment, Community and Local Government, Government of Ireland.

 

He will also interact with the business community of Ireland in meetings hosted by the Lord Mayor of Dublin and the Lord Mayor of Kilkenny.

 

He will have meetings with Irish government officials also.

 

He has also consented to deliver a lecture on 'Data Collection in Emerging Economies: Challenges and Prospects' at Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School, University College, Dublin.

 

The minister will interact with the non-resident Indian community at the reception and dinner hosted by Ireland-India Council. (ANI)
