Kolkata, Aug.20 (ANI): Hundreds of students belonging to the Left Front marched towards the state assembly on Friday to lampoon the West Bengal government headed by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for misusing its political clout to destabilize their unions.
Holding banners and shouting anti-government slogans, the protesters caused a major traffic jam on arterial roads in Kolkata.
Police deployed near the State Assembly further restricted the movement of several Left Front student unions, including the Students" Federation of India (SFI), the All India Students Federation (AISF) and the All India Forward Bloc (AIFB).
The students wanted to submit a memorandum to Banerjee on the violent activities being launched on them.
Sayandip Mitra, state secretary, Students Federation of India, said the injustice would not be tolerated and if their demands were not met, they would further launch a huge rally to press their demand.
"This injustice will not be tolerated and agitation against it would continue with greater intensity until the issue is resolved," he said.
Agitated protestors also threw rotten eggs and tomatoes on policemen.ecently, the Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress and the Congress party ended the 34-year-long rule of the Communist government in West Bengal. (ANI)
