CRPF chief lauds Kashmiris for providing information to security forces

Srinagar, Sat, 20 Aug 2011 ANI

Srinagar, Aug.20 (ANI): The Inspector General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Operations, B N Ramesh has praised Kashmiris for providing information to security forces about militant activities in Jammu and Kashmir.

"Nowadays, I believe that the trust of the public towards the security forces, especially CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) as well as other units of local police is gradually increasing. It is a good thing. In the past one-month, whatever two or three operations have been conducted, we have seen that the information is coming voluntarily from the affected people. It is not that we are purchasing information or we are procuring information. That shows the people are also not very happy with the state of affairs of some misguided elements," said Ramesh here on Friday.

Kashmir has been at the core of dispute between India and Pakistan over the past six decades with the nuclear-armed neighbours having fought two of their three wars since 1947 over the disputed territory, which is claimed by both in full but ruled in parts.

Nearly 50,000 people have been killed in Indian Kashmir since the start of an insurgency in the late 1980s that India says is sponsored by Pakistan.

"I don"t think that all militants are criminals. That is why my appeal to them is that just look at the prevailing situation with your open eyes. I know this, as I have spoken to a lot of people. After getting brainwashed, when they come here (in the state), they come to know the true reality," he said.

Later, Ramesh noted that CRPF has helped the unemployed educated youths of the state in providing jobs, as per mentioned in the Ranganrajan Committee, which was set up by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in August 2010. (ANI)
