Colombo, Aug 19(ANI): Australian cricket coach Tim Nielsen has said that he is fully behind the sweeping reforms to the game announced by Cricket Australia (CA) through the much awaited Argus Review.
Nielsen was one of several senior figures affected by the report's reforms, and will have to re-apply for the head coaching role if he wants to remain in that position.
"The review has been done with the sole purpose of improving and getting Australian cricket back to where we want to be at No.1 and that's what we're all about as a team and especially in my role as coach, that's what I'm all about," Fox Sports quoted Nielsen, as saying.
"I'm supportive of this process I just need some time to ensure that we go through this process and get all the information before we start making too much comment," he added.
According to reports, among the changes expected are the introduction of a five-man selection panel - including a fulltime chairman, two independents, the captain and coach - as well as a newly created position of general manager of team performance, who will be responsible for coaching, selection and the Centre of Excellence.
There will also be a new head coaching role with a broader scope than the current coaching job held by Nielsen. The head coach will also be a selector.
Don Argus, the former chairman of BHP Billiton and Brambles, conducted the review, which has been touted as the most comprehensive in Australian cricket history.
Argus interviewed over 60 people involved in Australian cricket before presenting his findings to the CA board yesterday. (ANI)
