London, Aug.16 (ANI): Keegan Bradley is thanking his lucky stars he opted for golf ahead of skiing.
The new USPGA champion defeated fellow American Jason Dufner. He won the winner's cheque of 825,000 pounds after a dramatic three-hole play-off.
It was probably more than he would have earned as a potential performer in the Winter Olympics.
The Sun quoted Bradley, 25, as saying: "I grew up in Vermont. When it was snowing we ski-raced and during the summers we played golf. My dad was head pro at a golf club and my aunt Pat is a Hall of Famer for winning six majors.
"The moment of truth for me came when I was 12. It was a slalom at Killington, part of the Suicide Six. I'll never forget it. It was raining, cold, sleeting, and I'm at the top of this mountain. That was the moment I realised I wanted to play golf rather than ski," he added.
The US Tour rookie became only the third golfer in more than a century to triumph in his first Major, following 1913 US Open winner Francis Ouimet and 2003 Open champion Ben Curtis. (ANI)
