London, August 15 (ANI): An attempt to break UK speed record for an electric car by Joe Wales, the great-grandson of speed legend Sir Malcolm Campbell failed after meeting a 'pothole' accident.

Joe Wales was attempting to hit 150mph on a beach in Wales when disaster struck. His Bluebird electric car hit the pothole in the sand and veered off course, The Sun reports.

The 19-year-old was attempting to break the 137mph record set by his father Don Wales.

The bid to break the record was called off after the car suffered damage due to the pothole accident.

"We are disappointed but relieved Joe is OK," spokesman Pendine Sands was quoted, as saying.

The teen's great-grandfather Sir Malcolm and great uncle Donald Campbell both created world speed records on land and water. (ANI)
