Shimla, Mon, 15 Aug 2011 ANI

Shimla, Aug 15 (ANI): The arrival of thousands of tourists in Shimla has provided an impetus to the tourism sector in Himachal Pradesh.

The pleasant weather conditions compel the tourists to visit this city and the neighbouring areas in large numbers, as they look for a change from their daily hectic routine.

According to the tourism department, approximately 80,000 tourists visited this city in the past three days.

Naren Shahi, a local travel agent here said that the tourists were attracted to visit the city due to the pleasant weather condition.

"The number of tourists is increasing in Shimla and the bookings in the hotels are full to the brim. The trains and buses are also full and departure buses and trains after August 15 have also been reserved in full this weekend," said Shahi.

"This is providing a good business to the hoteliers and the guides in the city and we hope that the number of tourists would continue in coming days," he added.

With the arrival of tourists from different parts of the country like Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, the visitors here faced a lot of problems in getting an accommodation, as most of the hotels were overbooked

"We are facing problem of accommodation. We are not getting any rooms in the hotels. We had to spend our last night on the road. We have come with our women children. All of us are facing problem," said Rahul Sharma, a tourist from Meerut city of Uttar Pradesh.

Another tourist, who came from Punjab's Chandigarh city, said that this city was a good place to visit during summer season and the government should take adequate steps to protect the beauty of the place.

According to reports, more than 10 million tourists visited Himachal Pradesh in 2010. This number is expected to increase in 2011. (ANI)
