London, Aug 15(ANI): England batsman Kevin Pietersen wants his team to "kill" opposition teams with their attacking brand of cricket - just like the recent all-conquering Australian teams and the West Indies team of the 1980s.
Pietersen's comment comes after England claimed the number-one Test ranking for the first time in 32 years after winning the Edgbaston Test against India by an innings and 242 runs, which has also given it an impregnable 3-0 lead in the four-Test series.
"The great Australian and West Indian teams were at the top for years and they killed opposition. I played in Australia in 2006-07 and, I promise you, we didn't look forward to any day's play because we knew we were going to be dealt with," the Sun quoted Pietersen, as saying.
"That's what I hope we can do to opposition. It's going to be tough but, potentially, teams can be fearful of us. Look at our engine room with Matty Prior at No 7 and the batting down to No 10. Those guys can score 150 runs and take the game away from teams - we've seen it a couple of times already in this series."
"If we get ourselves into a hole at 120-5 or something, we can still score 250-300 and then back our bowlers to do the business," he added.
To top the championship table for the first time under the current ranking system, which was introduced in June 2003, Andrew Strauss' side needed to win the series by a 2-0 margin or better.
England accomplished its mission with enormous confidence and that too in great style when it won the first Test at Lord's by 196 runs, then doubled the lead with a convincing 319 runs victory at Trent Bridge before sealing the series at Edgbaston on Saturday. (ANI)
