Srinagar, Aug.15 (ANI): Security forces in the Tral region near Srinagar seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition from a militant hideout on Sunday, a day before the country celebrated its 64th Independence Day.
In a joint operation, the 42 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and the 180 battalion of Central Reserve Police Forces (CRPF) busted the militant hideout.
Tahir Saleem, Deputy Superintendent of Police of the Tral region, disclosed this to the media.
"This is a major success for us because in the Tral region, the militants are facing an acute shortage of weapons and ammunitions. In a joint operation with 42 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and 180 battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), we went inside the forest. We were successful in locating the hideout, but could not find any militant in the area. We have a large cache of arms and ammunitions there," said Saleem.
The ammunitions discovered by the security personnel included four Chinese pistols, four magazine pistol,18 pistol bullets, 23Under Barrel Grenade Launchers, 21 AK 47 pistols rounds, IED material, HE rocket with detonators.
Saleem further said the militants could be affiliated to the Hizb-ul-Mujahideen group, who are active in Tral region.
