Katra (J-K), Aug.15 (ANI): At least two persons succumb and several are injured due to a massive landslide triggered by incessant rains in the Katra region of Jammu and Kashmir.
The incident took place when a group of devotees were on their way to offers prayers at Vaishno Devi.
Soon after the incident, a Disaster Management Authority team reached the spot and undertook rescue operations.
"As soon as information about the incident was received, the team of task force from our trust swung into action and reached the spot. They offered medical assistance to those injured and transported them to local hospitals in the area. As of now two people have lost their lives while six are critically injured who were rushed here and we are doing our best to offer help to the victims," said Mandeep Bhandari, Additional Chief Executive Office, Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.
Torrential rains affect millions of people in many South Asian countries such as India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Nepal, wreaking havoc by destroying crops and damaging homes, besides causing the spread of several water-borne diseases. (ANI)
