Colombo, August 14 (ANI): Australian batsman Michael Hussey has termed Ricky Ponting's decision to stay in the team despite quitting captaincy as 'a good one'.
"It has been fine, no worries at all. I think it's been a bonus that Ricky's still around. He is obviously batting brilliantly at the moment which is very important but having his experience, you see a lot of the younger players going up and talking to him about certain situations or how they play certain bowlers, to have that wealth of experience is just invaluable," Hussey was quoted, as saying by Sydney Morning Herald.
Ponting is set to become the first former Test skipper to take to the field after handing over the captaincy to his successor since 1984, when Australia begin their three-match series against Sri Lanka later this month.
Hussey said Ponting's presence in the side was helping the new captain Michael Clarke.
"He has been fantastic. He is batting well; he is helping Michael as well. You often see Michael and Ricky discussing things and Pup's very open-minded; he is always looking to get different ideas from different blokes," Hussey said.
Hussey said Ponting and Clarke were working together and utilizing their experience on the field to help the team. He added that Clarke was enthusiastic to lead the team.
"Michael Clarke's taken over as skipper and he's really enthusiastic for the team to be working hard and executing the plans that he wants for the team," Hussey said. (ANI)
