Toronto, Aug 13(ANI): Women's tennis is preparing for a boom in China following Li Na's historic French Open win, according to Women's Tennis Association (WTA) chairman Stacey Allaster.
"You have your first Grand Slam champion, Li Na, who is a dramatic ambassador for woman tennis and for China. 160 million Chinese people watched Li Na win at Roland Garros. That will inspire more young boys and young girls to play the sport," Allaster told Xinhua.
"It's a terrific time and terrific opportunity," she added.
Li Na became the first player from China to win a Grand Slam singles title when she beat Francesca Schiavone in the French Open earlier this month.
The match was watched by 116 million people in the 29-year-old's home country, making it the most-watched sporting event in China this year and the most-watched tennis match ever in the country. (ANI)
