Prakash Jha moves Supreme Court against ban on film 'Aarakshan'

New Delhi, Fri, 12 Aug 2011 ANI

New Delhi/Mumbai, Aug 12 (ANI): With the movie 'Aarakshan' (Reservation) being banned in the three states of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Andhra Pradesh, the film's director Prakash Jha has now moved the Supreme Court to lift the ban on it.

The film is based on quota system in education.

The movie was banned following objections raised by political leaders.

On Thursday, Jha had agreed to edit out some scenes of the movie that stars Amitabh Bachchan, Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone.

"We have agreed to make minor changes following objections. There are certain dialogues and scenes that have been edited," Jha told mediapersons in Mumbai.

The Mayawati Government had banned the film on Wednesday citing a possible law and order situation. The decision was taken following a recommendation by a high level official committee set up by the BSP Government, which watched the film and submitted their report.

The Punjab Government imposed the ban following apprehensions that some scenes and dialogues might trigger trouble.

The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) had earlier forwarded its protests over 'some objectionable' dialogues in the movie to the Censor Board and asked it to take a call on their inclusion.

The movie that also stars Prateik Babbar and Manoj Bajpayee is a socio-political drama based on the controversial policies of caste based reservations in government jobs and educational institutions.

This movie takes on issues about the society and political affairs of India. (ANI)
