Asia Road Racing Championship 2011 concludes in Chennai

Chennai, Aug 7(ANI): The four-day Asia Road Racing Championship 2011, which is one of the most prestigious two-wheeler racing events, concluded in Chennai today.

 

While interacting with mediapersons, one of the participants who secured the second position expressed his happiness over his success.

 

"I am very happy to finish in second place in Madras. Well, here the weather condition is very hot. The track is very technical and bumpy. So, it is very very technical for me," said Azian Shah Kamaruzaman from Malaysia, who finished second in 600 cc category.

 

Meanwhile, Prabhu Nagaraj, the Deputy General Manager and Operating Head of Honda Motorcycle India Ltd, stated the sole purpose of such events is to encourage more and more participation of riders from India and abroad.

 

"We are encouraging basically more and more... since motor sports is still not so popular in India. So, we are encouraging more and more people from across nation to come," Nagaraj said.

 

"We promoted extensively through our dealerships that we promote that...create awareness such motor sports event is happening and our dealers also get some riders who are interested from their own territory. And they sponsor top participate in this Chennai race track," he added.

 

Presently, the Chennai event is the only international two-wheeler racing event in India competing in the Super Sports 600cc category.

 

Nearly hundred participants from India, Malaysia, Thailand, china, Japan and Australia had shown their interest in the 600 cc race.

 

The Asia Road Racing Championship conducts six rounds across the world. First two rounds were held in Malaysia and Indonesia, third in India, the fourth would be held in Japan, fifth in China and the final round will be held in Qatar. (ANI)
