New Delhi, Aug 7(ANI): In wake of increasing pollution and use of plastic bags in Gurgaon, Haryana, a marathon was held on Sunday to create awareness among people to plant trees and save environment.
Organizers of the initiative said that their objective was to join hands with the local population to plant more trees and stop plastic bags.
"Around 1200 trees are being planted here and there is an organisation called IM Gurgaon, which wants to plant 10 lakhs trees in August. So, this is associated with the marathon," said Rahul, organizer of marathon said.
Talking to mediaperson, Kaushik, a participant, said that he was happy to adopt and plant a tree.
"This is a very good initiative, I mean, it is helping the environment, we are planting trees and the initiative of planting of one million trees is a very good thing and I am elated to be part of it and also happy that I am planting a tree," Kaushik said
"The initiative of adopting a tree is good and now I own a tree," he added.
Around 500 people of all walks of life participated in the campaign.
The marathon was divided into three categories of 10, 21 and 42 kilometres. (ANI)
