Police chief Khoda claims militancy has reduced significantly in Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu, Sat, 06 Aug 2011 ANI

Jammu, Aug 6 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Kuldeep Khoda has said there has been a significant decrease in militancy.

This year though the effort to infiltration is continuing.

"This is a big achievement, especially in Jammu province. There has been 70 percent decrease in the militant activities as compared to last year and there is also a significant decrease in number of militants but efforts of infiltration and the instruction given to them for infiltrating is a major concern, which needs to be kept in mind," said Khoda on Friday.

"We have to keep our security arrangement still very tight, so that no body is able to take undue advantage of it. You must have noticed that there have been lots of efforts for infiltration along the Kashmir border. They are trying to infiltrate as many as militants in the country before the passes close but due to the tight security on the border many infiltrators were stopped there only," he added.

Khoda said the reduction in militancy in the restive region is the result of equal participation by the security forces and Indian Army with the police, but the major contribution is of the local people.

"We have a very fine tuning with security forces and army in joint operations and every force is working together and that is the big achievement but with that I would like to give people a special status for their immense cooperation," said Khoda.

"If today we are getting information then it is because people of the region want peace and development and are united to fight militancy," he said.

"Almost everybody, every citizen in Kashmir wants peace and they are cooperating fully with the police and security forces and we are proceeding forward in the positive direction that is what is giving us results. People are fed up of violence or instability," said Khoda.

"They want stability, they want education for their children, Traders want peaceful atmosphere so that they can pursue their peaceful activity, their trades, their activities concerning their profession. It is our job to ensure that their longing for peace is achieved with the help of police and the other security forces. We are working together," he added. (ANI)
