Colombo, Aug 6(ANI): Australian batsman Ricky Ponting is likely to abandon the tour of Sri Lanka during the ODI series or the Test matches if the birth of his second child comes sooner than expected.
Ponting's wife Rianna is due to give birth just a week after the third and last Test match late next month.
With his three-year-old daughter Emmy born more than a month early, the 36-year-old, who reached Colombo with the national team last Thursday, expects to dash off at any time.
"It's not working exactly how we would have wanted it to work. Emmy was five weeks early as well so the likelihood of the second one being early is pretty high," The Daily Telegraph quoted Ponting, as saying.
"We've got all sorts of plans in place if it happens to come early, but it's pretty hard to make any concrete plans because we're not exactly sure when it's going to happen. It's going to happen in the latter half of the month if she goes full term, but I've got a funny feeling she won't."
"I'm not too far away from Colombo at any time nor too far away from a flight. If she looks like going early I'll just have to make some decisions there and then," he added.
The Australian team will begin the tour with the first of two Twenty20 matches at Kandy's Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Saturday. (ANI)
