New Delhi, Aug 2 (ANI): Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra on Tuesday demanded the resignation of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit over charges of graft and irregularities in preparation of the 2010 Commonwealth Games (CWG).
"For the past many days CVC (Central Vigilance Commission), CAG (Comptroller and Auditor General of India) as well as Shunglu Committee have been telling and had held Chief Minister responsible. Even after this she (Sheila Dikshit) has not issued any reaction or tendered her resignation from the post," said Malhotra.
"Now, after the resignation of Yeddyurappa (B. S. Yeddyurappa), she is supposed to tender her resignation. Otherwise Bharatiya Janata Party will launch a stir for it," he added.
The 19th Commonwealth Games were marred by charges of corruption, dubious contracts and poor workmanship in execution of various facilities.
Malhotra further said the Bharatiya Janata Party wasnow geared up in full force to floor the ruling Congress Party on numerous cases of corruption.
He also made a mention of the Shunglu Committee that was constituted by the Prime Minister to probe the Commonwealth Games scam.
In its report, the committee had held former Commonwealth Games (CWG) Organizing Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi responsible for irregularities in the staging of the mega event.
"PMO (Prime Minister Office) is directly involved in it. Kalmadi had spent 1200 crore and other 70, 000 was sanctioned by the Prime Minister, his Group of Ministers and his officers. So, they automatically come in the loop and that is why questions will be raised against them," added Malhotra.
Kalmadi was arrested by the CBI on April 25 for fraud and conspiring with other officers of the Organising Committee for overpaying a Swiss firm 95 crores for timing and scorekeeping equipment that was used at different venues during the Commonwealth Games.
Kalmadi has been accused of sanctioning payments to AM Films and AM Car at rates that were hugely inflated. (ANI)
