Canberra, July 31 (ANI): New South Wales pacer Burt Cockley has recovered from a knee injury and is now eying to grab a Big Bash league contract.
The 25-yaer-old pacer has suffered a barrage of injuries since 2009. He suffered stress fractures in his back, had a damaged anterior cruciate ligament, a rib problem and a battle with staphylococcus.
"It has been a tough time. I was down and out but everything I've been through reinforced how much I wanted to play cricket," Cockley was quoted, as saying by The Sydney Morning Herald.
"When I first came down and did well I surprised myself. I took wickets, played in the Indian Premier League and made the Australia one-day squad, but I quickly learnt you can be on top of the world one day and rock bottom the next," he added.
Cockley said he had to battle hard so that he could recover from the injuries. Cockley said he went through a process of regimented treatment before he could take the field again.
"It was horrendous. I had three operations in 10 days and lost eight kilos as a result of it," Cockley said.
Cockley is now trying to convince one of the BBL Twenty20 franchises to give him a contract.
"I know most of the teams have allocated their contracts, but I would like to think I could come back, bowl really well, and get picked by a team. I guess I have to hope and pray. My aim is to prove I am the same bowler I was and haven't lost anything," he said. (ANI)
