New Delhi, July 30 (ANI): A day after the government released the draft Land Acquisition Bill that seeks to enhance compensation for landowners, the farmers from around 50 villages in Noida have called a 'mahapanchayat' today to decide their next course of action on the land acquisition battle.
The provisions of the draft Land Acquisition Bill released on Friday aim at giving adequate compensation to landowners and ensuring rehabilitation of those displaced.
According to the Bill, the government can acquire the land at a price not less than twice the market value in urban areas. It also says the compensation will not be less than six times the market price in rural areas.
"The multi-cropped irrigated land cannot be acquired in any circumstances and consent of 80 per cent of project affected families is mandatory if the Government acquires land for use by private companies for stated public purpose," says the draft Land Acquisition Bill.
The draft suggests that under no circumstances should multi-cropped, irrigation land be acquired. The draft also makes it clear that the Government will not acquire land for private companies for private purpose.
"The Government intended to enact a transparent and flexible set of rules and regulations and ensure its enforcement. The draft Bill was being placed in the public domain as part of the pre-legislative consultative process. Comments are invited preferably before August 31," said Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh in the foreword to the draft Land Acquisition Bill.
Ramesh further said that land records would also be updated and digitilised to induce transparency. (ANI)
