Brisbane, July 30(ANI): Australian coach Tim Nielsen is confident that Ricky Ponting's experience and professionalism would ensure that there is no undermining of Michael Clarke's status as captain during the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.
Clarke will be leading the Test team as permanent captain for the first time when the series starts at Galle on August 31.
The Test series will follow two Twenty20 internationals and a five-match ODI series next month.
Ponting, who was replaced as captain after Australia's quarterfinal exit at the World Cup, has been included as a specialist batsman in the Test squad.
"It's a challenge for all of us to understand that Ricky's still on the group, that Michael's now the captain and I can't see any issues at all as long as we're all communicating well and talking openly and honestly with each other," Fox Sports quoted Nielsen, as saying.
Nielsen also reckons that the tour will be seen as the real beginning of Clarke's reign.
"Michael's very clear on how he feels the team should be playing and the things he feels are important for the team to be playing that way," the coach said. (ANI)
