Mumbai, July 30(ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Eknath Khadse today stressed on the need to provide houses to mill workers in Mumbai.
Khadse said this after attending a high-level meeting with Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan.
"The opposition still maintains that the mill workers should be given houses. We spoke to the Chief Minister, who gave us intricate details of various possibilities in this issue. He also asked for our party's opinion and said that we could also present certain alternatives," Khadse said.
"This issue is serious and we are trying our level best to provide accommodation to mill workers in the city. I also think that consensus on an issue like this that has been lingering on for more than 30 years cannot be achieved in one day," he added.
Mumbai mill-workers have been making the demand since 1982, and lakhs of them have lost their jobs went on strike. (ANI)
